Our tree plantation drive in Bajali began as one of the foundation’s first community projects. Jan Briddhi Foundation, formed by young people of Bajali district, launched a district-wide tree plantation drive with an inaugural ceremony at the Bajali Zilla Parishad campus. Cabinet Minister and Patacharkuchi MLA Ranjeet Kumar Dass inaugurated the drive.

Three phases, funded by the community

The drive was funded through crowdfunding. In 2022-23 it planted more than 250 trees in three phases: 100 in the first, 100 in the second and 50 in the third. Before July 2022, our volunteers had already planted more than 120 trees in Bajali and Sorbhog with local communities and school students.

Why we plant with communities

A sapling only becomes a tree if someone looks after it. Every phase involved local residents and students, so each tree had people nearby who cared about it.

The tree plantation drive in numbers

  • Phase one: 100 trees
  • Phase two: 100 trees
  • Phase three: 50 trees
  • Before July 2022: more than 120 trees planted in Bajali and Sorbhog

Funded by the community

The saplings were paid for through crowdfunding, which made the drive a shared community project rather than a one-day event.

The same approach shaped World Environment Day 2024, and today our environmental work continues through the Green Plate Initiative.
