NearBlood opens to NGOs: why we built a blood donation network

NearBlood connects NGOs and organisations working in blood donation with people who need blood. The app is built, and onboarding for organisations is now open.

Volunteers donating blood with the Jan Briddhi Foundation floating blood bank

Finding blood in an emergency in Assam still depends on phone calls, WhatsApp forwards and luck. We have seen it first-hand.

Where NearBlood came from

Jan Briddhi Foundation ran a Free Floating Blood Bank: volunteer donors across Guwahati, Nalbari, Barpeta, Pathsala and Bongaigaon who gave blood on demand to patients in need. It worked, but it depended on a few people’s phones.

What NearBlood does

NearBlood is a platform that connects NGOs, clubs and organisations working in blood donation with people who need blood. When a request comes in, the partner organisations nearest to the patient can see it and arrange donors.

Where it stands today

The app is built, and we are onboarding organisations now. Blood requests will open once onboarding is complete.
