The Assam floods 2022 hit Bajali district hard. The floods of June 2022 were among the worst Assam had seen in years. In Bajali district alone, more than 3 lakh people were affected, according to EastMojo.

Medhikuchi: nothing left to return to
Medhikuchi was one of the worst-affected villages in Bajali. More than 35 houses and many animals were washed away. Villagers told reporters they did not know how they could rebuild, with no other source of income. Their words were reported by EastMojo, The Sentinel and Times of Northeast.
Our response
Jan Briddhi Foundation delivered rations and sanitary items to more than 750 flood-affected families in Bajali, with support from Mariwala Health Initiative. Volunteers identified the most affected families and handed kits over directly.
What we learned
Floods return almost every monsoon. That is why Disaster Relief is now one of our four programmes, and why we responded again in 2023.

About our Disaster Relief work
Every monsoon, rivers in Barpeta and Bajali overflow into homes, fields and roads, and families are pushed into relief camps. Disaster Relief is how Jan Briddhi Foundation responds.
Relief kits are built around what families need: dry rations such as rice, dal, sugar and flattened rice; drinking water and ORS; hygiene items such as soap, detergent, bleaching powder, mosquito coils and sanitary pads; and essentials such as cattle feed and candles.
Our two flood responses, in 2022 and 2023, helped more than 950 families, both with the support of Mariwala Health Initiative. We mobilise again whenever floods hit. See the Disaster Relief programme.
About Jan Briddhi Foundation
Jan Briddhi Foundation is a registered Section 8 not-for-profit company in Bajali, Assam, working since 2022 where help is hardest to reach: brick-kiln camps, flood-hit villages and rural schools. It runs four programmes: the Green Plate Initiative, Puhor, Disaster Relief and NearBlood. It holds 12AB and 80G registrations, so donations are tax-deductible for donors who add their PAN, and is CSR-1 registered. Read our impact reports.
